We may not all become parents, but one thing is sure we all became children and in the future we will all grow old. I just had finished my early morning coffee last Saturday at my garden when I heard my neighbor arguing with her daughter.

“It is your turn to take Aunt Mary (for protection, this is not her real name) for her early morning walk at the park.” Marco (not his real name) said to her sister. The sister replied that she has task to do and she will not be able to take Aunt Mary to the park. Aunt Mary has to wait until the tasks are done or she will have to take her another time. For whatever reason, this reply saddened me. Someday I know I will also grow old and I also have parents who are now nearing their golden years. I could not bear the thought of seeing them left alone or being uncared.

Filled with these thoughts and with Aunt Mary, I volunteered myself to take her to the park. I have nothing to do that day and I am currently on a so called “jobless” state. I just resigned from a job that I had for 5 years from which I felt I never had a growth from so I decided to quit before it burnt me out totally. My neighbor gladly obliged to lend Aunt Mary to me. While Aunt Mary and I were strolling down the park, she retold to me stories of her younger days. Those days when she was still my age and the jobs that she once had and the places that she has been with, she reminisces them as if it were just yesterday. I could not help but laugh along with her as she retells those stories. I didn’t even realize it was time for her to get her back home. After returning her to my neighbors who were so thankful of what I did, they even joked around that they would pay me if I will do that on a regular basis. Aunt Mary was also delighted and pleads that she would greatly appreciate it if I will do that. I just gave them a non committal shrug and smile.

As I was browsing the internet though, I cannot shun off the thought of taking Aunt Mary to a stroll. That same day I happen to accidentally browse on a care giving site.
